Shaw Shines, Eagles End Fujikura

Rachel Shaw shined at the Fujikura Invitational, leading the Biola women’s golf team who ended the tournament fourth of the 15 teams.

VISTA, Calif.---Rachel Shaw shined at the Fujikura Invitational, leading the Biola women's golf team who ended the tournament fourth of the 15 teams.

Shaw paced the Eagles throughout the three-round invite. The Junior carded 74 in her first round and 75 in her final two which gave her a final scorecard of 224 and earned her third place. Shaw scored four birdies, which was second-best on her team.

Shaw was nine strokes behind the invite's champion Madison Murr from Cal State San Marcos (215) and just four strokes away from UT Tyler's Karina Duran who claimed second place (220).

Shaw continued to dominate in par-scoring where she led the field with 39 pars.

Turnquist achieved Biola's second-best overall score of 228, which tied her for ninth on the leaderboard. The Senior finished the invite strong, shaving off two strokes from her second round score (78) in her third round (76). 

Additionally, Turnquist continued to lead Biola in birdies. She recorded two more in her third round which made her total eight birdies for the invite (also was the second-most in the field).

Following Turnquist in the invitational's standings was Theresa Shaw (T24, 232), Melanie Reyes (T46, 239) and Abigale Morris (T67, 250).

Theresa Shaw was one of only three athletes in the tournament to earn an eagle. The Freshman also tallied three birdies.

Morris improved by two strokes in her third round, recording 88 in her second round and then 86 in her third. 

Morris and Reyes also scored birdies in their third rounds. Morris earned two and Reyes had one.

Emily Cons and Hailey Hays finished up their third rounds as individuals. Hays carded a three-round score of 244 which tied her for 58th and Cons recorded 250 which tied her for 67th.  

Cons and Hays both logged three birdies in the final round.

The Eagles concluded the tournament fourth of 15 teams. UT Tyler and CSU Monterey Bay executed third rounds below 300 which allowed them to slip past Biola. 

Nationally-ranked No. 16 Cal State San Marcos was the invite's team champion (901) followed by second place UT Tyler (908), third place CSUMB (916) and Biola rounded out fourth (919).

Biola defeated the three other PacWest Conference teams in attendance. Point Loma ranked eighth (932), Hawaii Hilo finished 11th (942) and Hawaii Pacific was 14th (973).

Next up for BU is the The Patriot Invitational on Tuesday, Mar. 19 at the Poppy Hills Golf Course.
