FINAL RESULTS
LAREDO, Tex.---The Biola women's golf team had a strong finish in their final round of the Jack Brown Memorial.

The Eagles came together to shave off seven strokes from their first round team score. Biola scored 319 in their first round and then 312 in their second which placed them third of the nine teams in attendance.

"The Lone Star conference is one of the best DII conferences in the NCAA," commented head coach Jane Carr. "I'm really proud of our team for finishing third of nine teams. We wanted to challenge ourselves and play with the best of the best. We were paired today with two very top ranked teams and it was a great experience. We will learn a lot from this first tournament of spring and come out even stronger."

Nationally-ranked #4 West Texas A&M won the invitational with a combined team score of 595. St. Mary's University, who was receiving votes (RV), came in second place (612) and Biola rounded out third place (631). The Eagles edged RV Texas A&M International who came in fourth with a team score of 633.

The Eagles were led by Brady Turnquist and Rachel Shaw who scored key second rounds, both improving by four strokes. Turnquist earned Biola's lowest score of 75 and Shaw had the second-lowest of 77.

"Brady had a rocky start at three over par in the first two holes, but got into a rhythm and went even par the remainder of the day," reflected Carr. "Brady is such an anchor for this team. She is a tremendous fighter. She gave every chip and putt a shot to go in, sometimes leaving herself with 4-5 foot comeback putts. I love when she plays aggressive and it paid off today!"

Carr added, "Rachel really came through today as well after going five over in her first four holes, then finishing even par her next 13 holes. It is challenging to fight back when you are already five over after four holes, but Rachel is a patient golfer that never gives up. She showed a lot of poise out there, you would have never known she had gotten off to a rough start."

Biola's next best scorer of the day was Melanie Reyes who earned 79. Following Reyes was Karis Haltom with 81 and Theresa Shaw with 84.

Turnquist also led the Eagles on the leaderboard with a combined score of 10-above-par 154. She was followed by Reyes (157), Rachel Shaw (158), Haltom (162) and Theresa Shaw (166).

Laura Ortiz competed as an individual for BU and shaved two strokes from her first round score. Ortiz totaled 164 in the two-round tournament.

The Eagles will return home and prepare to play next on Monday, Feb. 26 at the Time Tierney Pioneer Shootout.
