Turnquist and Reyes Pace Eagles

The women’s golf team concluded their first day of the two-round Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout tied for 10th of 16 teams at the Corica Park Golf Course.

ALAMEDA, Calif.---The Biola women's golf team concluded their first day of the two-round Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout tied for 10th of 16 teams at the Corica Park Golf Course.

The Eagles faced a field of 16 teams, one of which was nationally-ranked by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). Cal State San Marcos was the nationally-ranked squad in attendance, 16th-best in the nation in the WGCA's most recent poll.

The team leader of the invitational after the first round was CSULA with a team score of 292. Sonoma State was in second (299) and CSU Monterey Bay and CSU East Bay were tied for third (300).

Biola was tied for 10th with Western Washington with matching team scores of 313.

Brady Turnquist and Melanie Reyes paced the Eagles with first round scores of four-above-par 76. 

Turnquist led Biola with three birdies. Four Eagles had two birdies including Rachel Shaw, Laura Ortiz, Hailey Hays and Theresa Shaw. Reyes also had a birdie. 

Reyes was a par-scoring leader, tying for the second-most pars in the field with 13.

Behind Turnquist and Reyes was Hailey Hays (T46, 80), Rachel Shaw (T55, 81) and Theresa Shaw (T61, 82).

Laura Ortiz competed as an individual and recorded 12-above-par 84 which placed her T71.

Biola begins their second round tomorrow Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m.
