Biola Baseball Blowout

The Eagles opened Friday’s doubleheader with a 10-run victory over Westmont.

LA MIRADA --- Eagles Diamond saw a dandy from the BU baseball squad on Friday. Biola took down Westmont in a non-conference matchup in game one of the Friday doubleheader. The BU lead ballooned to ten in game one, as the Eagles routed WC, 12-2.

The runs trickled in for Biola in the early going. Small ball gave the Eagles a run in the second and a run in the third for a 2-1 edge.

The flood waters came through with a five-spot for the BU offense in the fifth and in the seventh frames. In the fifth, Wyatt Duncan provided the jolt with a two-run home run. The long ball was his fifth of the season.

Bobby Brown brought the stuff on Friday with six innings pitched. The junior earned the win on the mound, moving his season record to 3-0. Brown punched out five Warriors and only allowed one earned run on the day.

Offensively, Brown only added to his day, reaching base four times and scoring three times. He went one-for-three at the plate with two walks, while tallying two runs batted in.

James Whitman essentially put the game out of reach in the seventh with the team's second extra-base hit of the day. The BU left fielder came to the plate with the bases jammed and hit a double to bring home all three baserunners for a 12-2 BU lead that would stick through the final out.

Four Eagles tallied multiple hits in game one including Austin Carillo, Noah Ruiz, Duncan, and AJ Ortiz. Carillo got the job done as the leadoff man, reaching base four times in five chances at the dish.

Jake Anderson and Chris McClean joined forces in relief to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard through the final three frames.

Game two against Westmont is underway in La Mirada.
