Ferrence Leads Biola in Day One

The track & field teams saw some action on Friday with Jack Ferrence in the decathlon and 11 throwers competing at the Golden Eagle Invite.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola Track & Field teams saw some action Friday at the Golden Eagle Invitational. The Eagles had 11 throwers competing along with Jack Ferrence who finished the men's decathlon. 

Ferrence had a shining second place finish in the decathlon, recording 5803 points. Ferrence won the high jump with a mark of 1.80m and had three other podium finishes. Two of his top three finishes were second place in the discus and javelin throw. He also received a third place finish in the 100m dash.

Meanwhile, Biola's 11 throwers were competing at Orange Coast College's throw facility. BU had their most entries in the women's hammer throw. Seven women competed and three breached the top 10 of the 18 participants. 

Laura Brennan led the Eagles in the hammer throw with a 33.12m mark and she was followed by India Young (33.07m), Faith Winningham (32.81m) and Norah DeYoung (32.49m). Amaya Heard was just outside the top 10, placing 11th with a throw of 32.16m. 

Biola saw more success in the women's discus throw where Norah DeYoung placed sixth (top half of entries) with a throw of 36.42m.

On the men's side, Nathan Wilson had a top half finish in the discus throw, placing eighth of 19 athletes. Wilson's throw traveled 34.75m which put him in eighth. 

The Eagles will continue tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 17 in the Golden Eagles Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
