Biola Battles Cougars in Dual Meet

The swimming portion of the weekend’s dual meet commenced at APU on Saturday morning with Malia Ciolli and Morgan Kampfer earning event crowns.

AZUSA, Calif. --- The dual meet between Biola women's swimming and diving and Azusa Pacific continued on Saturday in Azusa with the swimming portion. Malia Ciolli and Morgan Kampfer won their events but the Eagles would ultimately fall, 149-94.

The final individual event of the day was the 200 breaststroke featuring Biola's Ciolli. The freshman defeated a field of nine with a time of 2:26.48. The event crown by Ciolli was followed by Rachel Munch in third place in the 200 breaststroke at 2:28.94.

Earlier in the day, Munch showed strength in the 400 individual medley. She posted a time of 4:42.91 for third place in the event.

Kampfer found success in the 200 butterfly on Saturday. The senior edged out a win with a top-three separated by less than one second. Kampfer took first place at 2:12.11 and teammate Sofia Chavez-Varela nabbed third at 2:12.95.

The day was bookended by relays, as the Eagles landed in second for both the 400 medley and 400 free relays.

Kimmy Gordon put together a nice day in the pool with a pair of top-three finishes. The freestyle specialist took second in the 200 free at 1:58.40, before finishing third place in the 100 free, clocking in at 53.84. 

Kampfer added to her day with a long distance swim, finishing in second place in the 500 free at 5:18.23. Emily Sheldon was not far behind, coming in fourth in the same event with a time of 5:23.06.

Two more freestyle events produced two more bronze medals for Biola with Sheldon in the 1000 meter and Phoebe Munholland in the 50 free.

Chloe Colvard took third in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 2:07.09.

The other two wins for Biola came on Friday with Lorelai Carney winning both the 3M and 1M dives.

Biola will be back in action on November 22, beginning the Collegiate Winter Invite at La Verne.
