BOULDER CITY, Nev.---The Biola women's golf team battled it out against some of the best teams in the nation at the NCAA National Preview.

The Eagles competed against an elite field of 13 teams, 11 of which were nationally ranked or receiving votes from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

The nationally-ranked teams included No. 1 Dallas Baptist University, No. 3 West Texas A&M University, No. 6 St. Mary's University (Texas), No. 9 Cal State San Marcos, No. 13 UT Tyler, No. 16 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 23 Midwestern State University. Cal State East Bay, CSULA, Hawaii Hilo and Cal State Monterey Bay are the teams receiving votes from the WGCA.

Biola finished the first day 10th of 14 teams with a two-round team score of 10-above-par 586. BU carded 294 in their first round and improved by two strokes in their second (292). The Eagles finished day one above the two other PacWest Conference teams in attendance, 11th-place Vanguard (588) and 14th-place Hawaii Hilo (643). BU also placed ahead of two teams that are receiving votes from the WGCA (CSUMB and UHH).

Laura Ortiz paced Biola on the first day, ending T21 on the leaderboard. The Senior recorded her personal best round of one-below-par 71 in the first round and then par in the second.

Theresa Shaw was next best for BU, placing T25th after the first two rounds. Shaw carded a personal best round of 71 in the first round and then one-above-par 73 in the second.

Following Theresa Shaw was Melanie Reyes (T44th, 148), Claire Shubin (T55th, 152), Rachel Shaw (T64th, 156) and Emily Cons (66th, 156).

The Eagles conclude the NCAA National Preview tomorrow Tuesday, October 8th. The third round is set to take place at 8 a.m. PT at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
