PUAKO, Hawaii---The Biola women's golf team had a great start to the HPU Sharks Shootout, ending the first round tied for fourth of 15 teams.

Four of the 14 teams Biola faced were nationally ranked by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) including No. 8 CSU San Marcos, No. 14 University of Texas at Tyler, No. 15 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 22 Simon Fraser. The most recent WGCA poll came out today and the Eagles were receiving votes from the women's golf coaches.

Biola concluded round one +9 which tied them with No. 14 UT Tyler. Ahead of the Eagles was first place and No. 8 CSUSM (-5), second place Cal State East Bay (+6) and third place and No. 15 University of Missouri-St. Louis (+7). BU led sixth place and No. 22 Simon Fraser by four strokes.

Claire Shubin led Biola on the leaderboard with an impressive one-under-par 71 first round.

Following Shubin was Laura Ortiz (74, +2), Theresa Shaw (74, +2), Abigale Morris (78, +6) and Melanie Reyes (79, +7).

Rachel Shaw competed as an individual and recorded +10 in her first round.

The Eagles have one round to go which begins at 7:30 a.m. HT at the Mauna Lani North Course.
