ROMEOVILLE, Ill. ---Â The top ranked teams across the nation came together for a regular season race at the Lewis Crossover on Saturday. Biola offered a strong showing with the men's squad finishing in fifth and the women's team grabbing eighth place.
The Eagles made the trip across the country, boasting the 16th-ranked men's team and the 15th-ranked women's team.Â
The BU men took fifth place on Saturday in a field of 36 teams. The competition featured three top-10 and 10 top-30 programs, as the Eagles defeated No. 4 Grand Valley State and conference foe Azusa Pacific.
On the women's side, Biola logged an eighth place finish in the same size field of 36 teams. The field included four top-10 and six top-30 teams.
In the women's 6,000 meter race, the BU team totaled 277 points behind the effort of Bethany Mapes. The junior finished in 10th place with a time of 21:17.92.
Lynette Ruiz came through next and secured the 19th position, clocking in at 21:39.97.
Jaina Kang and
Maggie Williams also contributed, finishing in 72nd and 94th places, respectively​.
Hailey Wurzbach rounded out the scorers for BU, nabbing 108th at 22:58.38.
In the men's 8,000 meter race, Biola scored 207 points, sitting just two points behind fourth place, the hosting school of Lewis. The leading BU runner was Melt Von Molendorff who placed 17th with a time of 24:19.99. Just nine seconds later, Rouxan Le Roux crossed the finish line at 24:28.93 for 26th place.
Other contributors, such as
Jerry Baltzer and
Aidan Tomasini, placed 32nd and 43rd, respectively​. The duo also finished within nine seconds of each other at 24:34.45 and 24:43.54.
Jacob Shirota also scored for the Eagles, placing 89th and clocking in at 25:09.64.
Biola cross country will now prepare for the PacWest Championships set for October 26 in Irvine, CA.
