The women’s golf team held their ground against a competitive field of 16 teams at the NCAA West Regional Preview.

AMARILLO, Tex.---The Biola women's golf team held their ground against a competitive field of 16 teams at the NCAA West Regional Preview. 

The Eagles competed against seven nationally-ranked teams and three teams that are receiving votes from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). The nationally-ranked teams in attendance were No. 1 Dallas Baptist, No. 4 West Texas A&M, No. 6 Saint Mary's (TX), No. 12 Cal State San Marcos, No. 20 Midwestern State, No. 22 Cal State East Bay and No. 23 Cal State Monterey Bay. UT Tyler, CSULA and Texas A&M International are the squads that are receiving votes from the WGCA.

BU held 10th place after the first two rounds at Tacosa Golf Club and maintained that position through the final round with a combined team score of 922. Biola finished ahead of two nationally-ranked teams, 22nd-best CSUEB and 23rd-best CSUMB.

Theresa Shaw and Claire Shubin led Biola on the leaderboard, tied for 19th with final scorecards of 225. Shubin's third round was her best round of the tournament. The Graduate Student carded three-above-par 74 which moved her 11 slots up the scoreboard.

Melanie Reyes was the next-highest Eagle on the leaderboard, tying for 38th with a scorecard of 231. Reyes matched her second-round score of 77 in her third round which boosted her up four slots on the scoreboard.

Following Reyes was Laura Ortiz (T65, 241) and Karis Haltom (T77, 248).

Abigale Morris competed as an individual and tied for 74th with a scorecard of 244.

Next up for the Eagles is the NCAA National Preview on Monday, October 7th in Boulder City, Nevada.
