January 25, 2024

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's track & field program is excited for the addition of 13 newcomers to their 2024 roster. The Eagles' group of 13 newcomers includes 10 freshmen and three transfer students.

Ten athletes will compete for their first times as Biola Eagles and three join the squad after first competing in cross country season.

"There are a lot of impact athletes in this group of young men and I can't wait to watch them build up the next generation of Biola Track and Field," stated head coach Sean Henning. "Not only is there a wealth of talent in this group, there are also some hidden gems, great depth pieces, future leaders, and most importantly high-character young men. The future of Biola Track and Field is bright and I'm confident this class will do some big things during their time in the program."

Richie Davenport / Freshman / Kamehameha Schools Maui / Wailuku, HI
Personal Bests: 200m-23.83    400m-52.96
Coach Justin Johnson on Richard: "I met Richie in the Fall of his senior year. We invited him to a practice to show him around and meet the team. He was wide-eyed and anxious. I believe with more volume this fall for Richie and building his sprints base, it's going to allow him to be more versatile within the full range of sprint, short and long. Can't wait to see what he does on the track this season."

Matthew Kaloustian / Freshman / Orange Lutheran HS / Newport Beach, CA
Personal Bests: 100m-10.70    200m-21.69
Coach Henning on Matthew: "Matt stood out to me because of his care and concern for his teammates and coaches. He has a servant's heart and is a leader in the making. He is a great teammate and loves to be a part of something bigger than himself. Matt is a very talented sprinter who had a great coach over at Orange Lutheran. I'm excited to watch him grow in his walk with the Lord while helping build a great culture of sprinters here at Biola."

Jan Kuncický / Graduate Student / Ostrava, Czech Republic
Personal Bests: 800m-1:51    1,500m-3:47    3,000m-8:30
Coach Henning on Jan: "Jan came highly recommended to me through a mutual friend and he will be a great fit for our program. He is pursuing an MBA here at Biola and has some great racing experience under his belt. There is a lot of maturity in his approach to running, and I'm excited to see how he progresses throughout the season and develops here in the U.S. He is a very talented runner and isn't afraid to work hard and put in the miles. We are blessed to have him."

Rouxan Le Roux / Graduate Student / North West University / South Africa
Personal Bests: 800m-1:53 1,500m-3:53
Coach Henning on Rouxan: "I was excited to get Rouxan here because I knew his personality would gel with the team really well. He comes from a strong faith background and gets what we are trying to do here at Biola. Rouxan is also pursuing an MBA like Jan, and he will bring great competitive spirit, positivity, and work ethic to this team. As we continue to build out this middle distance squad, Rouxan will be a big part of that."

Angelo Legaspe / Freshman / Cole HS / San Antonio, TX
Personal Bests: 100m-11.93    200m-23.10
Coach Johnson on Angelo: "Working with Angelo this season will be something new for him, as I will look to open his mind up and be more confident in his ability as an individual contributor to the team and with his open events. Angelo comes to us with extensive experience running multiple relays for his team, doing a lot of the heavy lifting. This year, his role will change slightly as I want to develop his individual skills and outlook on how he attacks his open events!"

Dylon Lovely / Freshman / Sherwood HS / Sherwood, OR
Personal Bests: 100m-10.98    200m-23.04
Coach Johnson on Dylon: "Dylon comes from a very loving, caring family. Dylon will fit in well with our team dynamic and what I'm doing to build this family atmosphere with our team. He has hit many milestones in his senior season and I am extremely excited about his development and passion for the track and field sport. I am keen to develop Dylon this year as he is a young sprinter with a lot of upside."

Tyler Poltl / Freshman / Tesoro HS / Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Personal Bests: 100m-10.90    200m-22.52
Coach Henning on Tyler: "I can't say enough good things about Tyler and his character. He is a great fit for the mission of Biola and our program goal of glorifying the Lord with our talents. I really enjoyed talking with him and his father during the recruiting process and learning more about what he was looking for in a university. Tyler is a talented sprinter with so much untapped ability. He also has some great leadership qualities and will be a welcome addition to a young and hungry sprints group."

Robby Porter / Freshman / Cody HS / Cody, WY
Personal Bests: HJ-6'8"
Coach Henning on Robby: "I am really happy Robby decided on Biola. He is a very good athlete whose best days in the sport are only ahead of him. He didn't have a ton of coaching in high school, so a lot of his success was based off of raw ability. He won a state title as a senior and it wouldn't surprise me if he pushed for a national standard this spring. He might also pick up some other jumps as well. Robby will be a great addition to our team culture and our commitment to excellence as Christian student-athletes."

Joaquin Ramirez / Sophomore / Our Lady of the Lake University / San Antonio, TX
Personal Bests: 100m-11.04    300mH-38.41
Coach Johnson on Joaquin: "Joaquin is an incoming transfer to our program. He is very gifted athletically when it comes to hurdles & short sprints. He will add depth regarding short and long relays at Biola. Hurdlers are usually your utility athletes who can be plugged in anywhere and help the team when needed, and this statement can be true for Joaquin. He will be a utility player for our program."

Donovan Tommy / Freshman / Hollister HS / Hollister, CA
Personal Bests: 100m-10.84    200m-22.29
Coach Henning on Donovan: "Donovan is such a young sprinter. He is a former baseball player who picked up track as a senior and ran extremely fast. He's still figuring out the sport, and that's very exciting to us. I have no doubts he is going to make an immediate impact in our program and in Division II. He comes from a great family and has a lot of support behind him. I can't wait to see how he develops as a young man and athlete!"

The three cross country runners who are competing in their first track & field seasons are: Grant Leigh, Ben Sonneland and Saul Hernandez.
