Offense Struggles at PLNU

Biola was unable to get the offense going on the road, dropping its first contest in over a month.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The winning streak for BU men's basketball came to an unfortunate end on Wednesday night. The battle for first place in the conference was won by Point Loma (11-4, 6-1 PacWest), as Biola (11-5, 6-2 PacWest) fell to the Sea Lions on the road in a 61-50 final.

The midweek contest was a defensive trench fight between the Eagles and Sea Lions. Neither team was efficient from the floor, as BU managed to shoot just 28.4 percent and PLNU hit at a 30.5 percent rate.

There seemed to be a lid on the basket for Biola's long range attempts, as the team saw just two three-pointers fall on 18 attempts.

Casey Cappo was able to pull together 17 points for BU, sinking seven field goals and shooting 44.0 percent from the floor. The junior added 15 rebounds for a monster double-double on Wednesday.

Alongside Cappo, Maximo Milovich pushed the team's advantage on the boards. Biola outrebounded the hosting squad 53-41. Milovich grabbed five defensive rebounds and five offensive rebounds which helped BU pick up 21 second chance points.

Despite trailing from the first possession, the Eagles stayed within range throughout the bout. After falling behind by double-digits early, Biola brought it back to a five-point deficit twice in the first half.

In the second half, the Eagles utilized a 7-1 run to cut the PLNU lead to six but did not have the fire power to mount a successful comeback. The BU squad saw Nathan Medina, the team's leading scorer on the year, miss his first game of the season due to an injury.

Garrison Sherman drew his first career start in Medina's place and logged 28 minutes with four points, a block and a steal.

Biola will be back in action on the road against Azusa Pacific on Saturday and 4:30 pm.
