Exciting Ending for Biola Golf

Brady Turnquist won the D2 54 For IX tournament's individual title and the Eagles finished second as a team.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah---The Biola women's golf team ended a great day at the D2 54 For IX invite, Brady Turnquist won the individual title and the Eagles finished second in the 11-team tournament.

Turnquist led the tournament from the opening round and held her standing all throughout the next two rounds of play. The Senior from Oregon City, Oregon recorded one-above-par 73 twice and then two-above-par 74 in her final round (220).

Turnquist was five strokes ahead of the next-best golfer in second place, Sonoma State's Avery Foster (225).

Biola didn't let their second round finish hold them back in their final go around. Instead, the Eagles showed their resiliency and teamed up to execute their best round of the three-day invite (301). BU cut off 10 strokes from their second round score which allowed them to pass Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa on the leaderboard. 

Sonoma State ended up winning the invite with a combined three-round team score of 923, Biola trailed them by six strokes with a score of 929. Colorado Christian placed third (935) and Colorado Mesa was fourth (938).

Biola's next four golfers scored their best rounds of the invitational. Jessica Cornelius jumped up from T13 to T8 in the player standings with a combined score of 232. Cornelius' third round score of 75 was two strokes improved from her second round and five from her first. 

Karis Haltom's third round score was 77 which was two strokes better than her second round and six improved from her first. Haltom tied for 23rd with a combined score of 239.

Laura Ortiz tied for 27th with a combined score of 240. Ortiz shot 75 in her third round which is eight strokes better from her second round and seven from her first round.

Rachel Shaw scored 81 in her third round which was one stroke improved from her first and second rounds. Shaw tied for 39th with a combined score of 245.

Hailey Hays competed as an individual for Biola. The Freshman recorded 81 in her third round which placed her 33rd on the leaderboard with a combined three-round score of 242.

Next up for Biola is the Shark Shootout on Monday, Oct. 23 in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
