SOUTH JORDAN, Utah---The Biola women's golf team showed improvement in their second round of the D2 54 For IX invitational, but dropped to fourth in the team standings. Meanwhile, Brady Turnquist continued to lead the field, scoring one-above-par 73 in her second round which kept her in first place of 60 individuals.
Even though the Eagles managed to shave off six strokes from their first round team score, they ended up falling to fourth in the team standings because of impressive second rounds from Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa.Â
Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa jumped up to second and third place on the leaderboard due to double-digit improvements in their second rounds. Colorado Christian bettered their second round team score by 18 strokes (304)Â and Colorado Mesa improved theirs by 15 (306).Â
Biola was close behind them in fourth with a second round team score of 311 and a two-round combined score of 628. The Eagles trailed second place Colorado Christian (626) by two strokes and third place Colorado Mesa (627) by just one.Â
Sonoma State held their first place lead with a second round score of 305 which made their two-day total 621.Â
Turnquist led Biola and the field once again, replicating her first round score of 73 in her second round. Statistically, Turnquist led the field in Par 4s, Par 5s and birdies. The Senior's running birdie total is six, three from her second round and three from her first round on Sunday. Turnquist created some distance between herself and the next best individual, five strokes ahead of Sonoma State's Avery Foster in second place.
Behind Turnquist was Jessica Cornelius who tied for 13th with a second round score of 77, a two-stroke improvement from her first round.Â
Karis Haltom was Biola's next best on the leaderboard who also bettered her second round score. The Freshman shot 83 in her first round and then 79 in her second, which jumped her up 14 slots on the leaderboard (T28).Â
After Haltom was Rachel Shaw tied for 36th (82) and Laura Ortiz tied for 41st (83).
Hailey Hays competed as an individual for Biola and had a great second round, scoring 77 which was seven strokes better than her first round. The Freshman moved up from T45 to T26 in the standings.
Tomorrow Tuesday, Sep. 26 is the final round which will be an exciting battle at the Glenmoor Golf Club with the Eagles just strokes behind the top three teams.
