Eagles Start D2 54 For IX Strong

The golf team got off to a strong start at the D2 54 For IX invitational, finishing the first round with a team score of 317 in second place.

FIRST ROUND RESULTS

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah---The Biola women's golf team got off to a strong start at the D2 54 For IX invitational, finishing the first round with a team score of 317 in second place.

The Eagles teamed up to execute an excellent round of golf today at the Glenmoor Golf Club. BU led the field in birdies with eight. Jessica Cornelius was on fire in round one, leading her team and the field with four. Behind Cornelius was Brady Turnquist who scored three and Rachel Shaw who tallied one.

Individually, Biola was led by Turnquist who scored one-above-par 73 which placed her first of 60 athletes. Additionally, Turnquist leads the current second place golfer from MSU Denver by two strokes (MSU Denver's Sydney Eye, 75).

BU's next-best golfer on the leaderboard was Cornelius who was tied for 13th with a score of 80. Following Cornelius was Laura Ortiz and Rachel Shaw (T32, 82) and then Karis Haltom (T42, 83).

Hailey Hays competed as an individual. Hays tied for 45th with a first round score of 84. She also scored a birdie in her first round.

Biola is in a great spot heading into tomorrow's second round. The Eagles enter round two just one stroke behind first place Sonoma State (316).
