Tennis Continues to Show Talent in the Classroom

The Biola tennis teams showcased their talent in the classroom with team honors awarded to the women and seven individuals recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

TEMPE, Ariz.---The Biola tennis teams earned academic recognition from the International Tennis Association (ITA) as they recently announced their Division II All-Academic Teams for the 2023 season.

The women's tennis team was honored as a whole for their cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.67. They also had five individuals highlighted as ITA Scholar-Athletes including Gaby Carvajal, Brooke Fager, Amelia Kitts, Lilly McNeill, and Julia Vartuli.

All five of these individuals were also named Academic All-PacWest. Carvajal, Fager and McNeill were additionally named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). 

On the men's side, Antonio Rosales Varona and Alex Sedeno were honored on ITA's DII All-Academic Team. 

This is Rosales Varona's and Sedeno's third academic award for the 2023 season as they were also named Academic All-PacWest and CSC Academic All-District. 

To be eligible for the ITA's DII All-Academic teams individuals were required to have at least a 3.5 GPA and teams needed to have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 for the 2023 academic year.
