DALLAS, Tex.---Brady Turnquist concluded her first round at the NCAA Division II West Regional where she tied for 28th overall at the Golf Club of Dallas. 

"Today was a long day on the course with a three hour thunderstorm delay," said head coach Jane Carr. "It is challenging for players to start and stop like that but nothing phases Brady!"

Turnquist represents Biola in a field of 66 athletes which includes 12 teams competing for the tournament title.

The 12 teams in attendance are West Texas A&M, CSU San Marcos, DBU, CSU East Bay, St. Mary's (TX), Oklahoma Christian, Point Loma, Colorado State-Pueblo, UT Tyler, Colorado Christian, Holy Names and Simon Fraser University.

Turnquist is one of six individuals who was selected to attend the West Regional. The five other individuals are Maria Sierra Sanz (Angelo State), Arnie Taguines (Texas Permian Basin), Yuliana Yapur (Texas A&M International), Morgan Sjoerdsma (Cal State LA) and Elle McCord (Northwest Nazarene).

Despite the inclement weather, Turnquist fared well in her first round where she placed T28. The Junior carded five-above-par 75 in the opening round of the West Regional and had the third-most pars in the field with 14. 

"Brady had a solid day today even though the birdies were not falling," added Carr. "She is in a great position for tomorrow on a course that she set a personal record on in the fall with a 7 under-par round. Brady is a fierce competitor and a joy to watch on the golf course."

Turnquist trails the tournament's leader CSU East Bay's Julika Grosspietsch by eight strokes (67).

Turnquist will play two rounds tomorrow (Tuesday, May 9 at 6 a.m. PT) due to inclement weather on the forecast for Wednesday.
