Freshman Lead Occidental Invite

Katie Thompson and Jack Sapyta led the track and field teams at the Occidental Invitational with the two highest finishes.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.---The Biola track and field teams participated in 16 events at the Occidental Invitational.

Katie Thompson led the track and field teams with two podium finishes. The Freshman finished third in the triple jump and high jump. Thompson recorded 11.37m in the triple jump and matched her personal best of 1.55m in the high jump.

Jack Sapyta earned the highest finish on the men's side. Sapyta placed sixth of 18 athletes in the 400m dash with a time of 49.51.

The 800m run was a successful event for the women where two athletes placed in the top 10. Hannah Champness led the Eagles with a sixth place finish and a time of 2:10.67 which was one second and 71 milliseconds faster than her previous best of 2:12.38 at the PacWest Conference Championships.

Maggie Williams was the next Eagle to finish, coming in eighth of 23 participants with a time of 2:11.15.

The men had another solid showing in the 1,500m run. All three Eagles who ran in the event finished in the top half. Charles Bailey led Biola with a 21st place finish and a time of 3:53.69. Aidan Tomasini was the next best with a 29th place finish and a time of 3:57.79. 

Melt von Molendorff was right behind Tomasini in 30th with a time of 3:58.31.

Ryan Todd closed the meet for Biola with an outstanding performance in the 5,000m run. Todd finished 23rd of 108 athletes, setting a personal best time of 14:31.38 which was almost nine seconds better than his previous time of 14:39.92.

Biola's next meet is the APU Last Chance Qualifier which is their last meet before the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
