Champness Records Provisional Mark, Eagles Achieve Several Personal Bests

Hannah Champness recorded a NCAA Provisional time in the 1,500m run and several Eagles achieved personal bests in their last regular meet of the season.

AZUSA, Calif.---The Biola track and field teams finished the APU Last Chance Qualifier meet with several great marks. Hannah Champness highlighted the Eagles, recording a NCAA Division II provisional time in the 1,500m run.

Champness shined in the 1,500m run and led BU with a time of 4:29.59 which placed her 18th of 82 runners. The Senior achieved a personal best and was 2.5 seconds better than the NCAA DII provisional mark of 4:32.09. Champness now ranks fifth-best in the PacWest Conference in the event.

Hailey Wurzbach also had a good outing in the 1,500m run, placing 31st and recording a personal best time of 4:39.76.  

Britta Holmberg recorded another impressive mark for Biola, achieving a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase. Holmberg crossed the line sixth with her new best time of 11:10.55. 

Katie Thompson and Hanna Bevan posted top marks for Biola's women in the field events. Thompson placed sixth of 12 athletes in the triple jump with a distance of 11.71m. Thompson also earned a personal best in the triple jump, improving by .22m. Bevan placed fifth of nine athletes in the high jump with a jump of 1.62m.

Mathias Davis and Jack Sapyta led Biola's men in the track events, both placing in the top half of individuals in their events. Davis was 24th of 45 athletes in the 400m dash with a time of 49.60 and Sapyta recorded a personal best time of 22.25 in the 200m run, placing 33rd of 62 runners. Sapyta shaved off five milliseconds from his last best time. 

Caleb Pook and Joshua Jackson led Biola's men in the field events. Pook earned a personal best mark in pole vault (4.72m), placing 10th at the APU Last Chance Qualifier meet. Pook's pole vault of 4.72m gave him the second-best vault in the PacWest Conference as a true freshman. Jackson finished eighth of 13 participants in the triple jump with a distance of 14.24m.

Next up for Biola is the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships where select athletes will advance and represent Biola at the national level. More information on qualifying athletes to follow.
