Singles Dominance

The women’s tennis team beat Cal State LA 5-2, dominating in singles.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--- The Biola women's tennis team dominated in singles, where they picked up five wins over Cal State LA.

The Eagles improved 5-8 overall with their 5-2 win over Cal State LA, while the Golden Eagles fell 3-12.

Biola got off to a shaky start by losing the doubles point and the first singles match on the sixth court. But with their backs against the wall, the Eagles answered with five-consecutive wins on the remaining courts.

Colbeyshae Emery recorded Biola's first win after her three-set battle over CSULA's Sarah Olmos. Emery lost the first set 1-6 and came back to win the last two 6-1, 6-1.

Lilly McNeill then tabbed the tying win on the second court. This was McNeill's first time playing on the second court and she prevailed, receiving a  7-5, 6-1 win over CSULA's Sakura Kurokawa.

Gaby Carvajal finished next and was the go-ahead singles win for Biola, 3-2. Carvajal beat CSULA's Courtlyn Lam 6-2, 6-3 on the fifth court.

That left matches going on courts 3 and 4. Brooke Fager was the first to finish after outlasting CSULA's Hideka Takamura on the third court. Fager started off strong with a 6-3 win in her first set, but then fell 4-6 in the second. Fager battled to win the deciding set 6-4 to clinch the match for the Eagles, 4-2.

Alexandria Mann was the final court in action as she was also in a grueling three-set battle against CSULA's Alexandra Hincu. Mann won her first set 6-3 and then lost the second with a reversed score of 3-6. Mann kept up her intensity and eventually won the deciding set 7-5 to give Biola the 5-2 win.

The Eagles play next on Friday, Apr. 7 at 12 p.m. against Westmont at the Biola Tennis Center.
