April 20, 2023

Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. --- The Eagles entered the consolation bracket of the PacWest Tournament on Thursday and matched up against the Dominican Penguins. An early lead went to Biola but DUC bounced back and took the win in a 4-1 finish.

Doubles play was all in favor of the Eagles. The duos were cruising with strong wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2, leaving the third court unfinished.

Gaby Carvajal and Lilly McNeill were all business in No. 2 doubles, delivering first for Biola. The teammates cashed in with a 6-1 victory in just over 30 minutes of game time.

The doubles point was secured through Colbeyshae Emery and Brooke Fager. The veterans collected a 6-4 win on court one, netting their ninth triumph as a duo this season.

Dominican began to take control as the match transitioned to singles play.

Courts one and two opened up with Biola taking set one, keeping a small lead with the doubles point already in its back pocket. The Penguins responded with wins across the next four courts to put the pressure on.

Nothing seemed to go right as the match progressed. Five of the six second sets in singles play went the way of Dominican, as the Penguins picked up three quick points in straight-sets. One three-set win for DUC ended the match at 4-1.

Biola will return to the courts in Surprise, Arizona for the 11th place match on Friday against Colorado Mesa.
