More Golf to Play

The women’s golf team had a slow start to the PacWest Championships, but has time to turn it around with 36 holes remaining in the tourney.

LITCHFIELD, Ariz.---The Biola women's golf team had a slow start at the PacWest Championships, but has time to turn it around with 36 holes to go to in the championships.

At the end of the first round, Biola was tied for sixth with Academy of Art with a team score of 328. Point Loma stormed ahead to lead the field with a team score of 309 which was six strokes above the two teams tied for second (Dominican and Holy Names). Hawai'i Hilo placed fourth with a team score of 316 and Hawai'i Pacific was one stroke behind the Vulcans with a team score of 317.

Brady Turnquist and Emily Cons led the Eagles in the opening round with matching scorecards of 80 which placed them T15. Turnquist and Cons are only eight strokes behind the championship's leading individual from Point Loma, Tabetha Kang, who recorded par in the first round. 

Melanie Reyes was the Eagles next best on the leaderboard, recording 82 which tied her for 20th overall. Behind Reyes was Rachel Shaw (28th, 86) and Jessica Cornelius (T31, 88).

Reyes and Shaw led their team with two birdies in the first round and Turnquist had one. 

There is a lot more action to go for the Eagles who are set to begin their second round of the PacWest Championships tomorrow at 9 a.m.
