Eagles Conclude Bryan Clay Invite

The track and field teams competed in 17 events in the final day of the Bryan Clay Invite.

AZUSA, Calif.---The Biola track and field teams concluded the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational, competing in 17 events throughout the day.

The 17 events included 12 track and five field events. The track events were the men's and women's 4x100m relay, men's and women's 4x400m relay, men's 400m dash, men's and women's 100m dash, men's and women's 400m hurdles, women's Open A 1,500m run, and men's and women's Open B 1,500m run.

Biola's strongest events of the day were the men's and women's Open B 1,500m run.

Charles Bailey had one of the best performances of the day in the Open B 1,500m run. Bailey finished 13th of 197 runners with a speedy time of 3:50.68. Bailey also set a new personal best, beating his previous time of 3:54.99 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Biola had one other runner finish in the top 100 which was Aidan Tomasini who crossed the finish line 57th with a time of 3:53.71.

The women's team had one athlete finish in the top 100 in the Open B 1,500m run. Hailey Wurzbach placed 38th of 156 runners with a time of 4:42.21 which was also a personal best for the Freshmen. Wurzbach's previous best was 4:43.25 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.  

Three other Eagles set personal bests in the track events including Jerry Baltzer (Open B 1,500m run, 4:10.39), Lolo Landrith (Open B 1,500m run, 4:55.91), and Grace Catena (Open A 1,500m run, 4:39.74). 

Ellie Stetina (Open B 1,500m run, 4:54.78) and Bethany Mapes (Open A 1,500m run, 4:43.78) both competed in the 1,500m run for the first time.

The five field events Biola competed in were the women's shot put, women's javelin, men's and women's triple jump and women's high jump.

Katie Thompson recorded a strong mark of 11.58m in the triple jump which landed her 32nd and was a personal best. Thompson's previous best was 11.22m at the PLNU Invitational.

The Eagles last meet before the PacWest Championships is the Chris Rinne Twilight Meet at the UC Riverside Track Facility on Friday, Apr. 21.
