First Day Completed

The track and field teams completed their first day at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- The Biola track and field teams completed their first day of the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Cox Stadium.

The Mike Fanelli Track Classic is a three-day meet that originated in 2008 as the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and was renamed in 2019 after one of SFSU's track and field alumni and former coach Mike Fanelli. 

The 2023 field is composed of track and field athletes from various universities, community colleges and a handful of unattached athletes/teams. 

Today Biola had athletes participating in three of the four track events that took place which included the women's and men's 10,000m run and the men's 3,000m steeplechase. 

The women had eight distance runners participate in the 10,000m run. Grace Catena and Karis Brown headlined the group with top 10 finishes. Catena led BU's women with a 7th-place finish (36:55.20) and Brown was the next best in ninth (37:15.88). 

Ellie Stetina was the next highest finisher in 20th (37:45.52) followed by  Haleigh Guerrero in 22nd (37:48.51), Emma Gutierrez in 27th (39:30.42), Lillianna Sosa (40:46.96) and Julia Knowles in 35th (41:17.25). 

The men had five runners compete in the 10,000m run. Brady DeHaven led the group with a 13th place finish with a time of 30:48.62.

He was followed by Jerry Baltzer in 19th (31:09.77), Jacob Shirota in 32nd (32:03.28), Aiden Sherer in 49th (33:24.69), Aden Wiebers in 52nd (34:01.41) and Zachary Wallace in 53rd (34:17.40).

The Eagles ended the day with the men's 3,000m steeplechase. Biola had three runners participate in this event with Charlie Bailey leading the group with a 15th-place finish (9:23.00). Connor Bramel was the next Eagle to finish with a time of 9:46.65 in 31st place. Jeremiah Echeverria wrapped up the squad with a time of 10:03.48 in 38th place. 

The Eagles are set to begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Cox Stadium with the first events being the women's and men's 1,500m run.
