Biola has a Field Day

The Eagles impressed in the field on Saturday and totaled 11 podium finishes at the Point Loma Collegiate Invite.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Back-to-back meets down in the San Diego area finished with a day at Point Loma on Saturday. Throughout the competition, Biola made its presence felt with 11 podium showings and 30 top-10 placements.

The field events brought the excitement for Biola with a pair of event wins. The group also added seven top-three finishes on the day.

Gigi Fierro dominated the field in the discus throw. A toss of 38.90m beat all other competitors by over two meters, as she grabbed the event crown. Her teammate, Gianna Troppy, grabbed fourth with a throw of 36.02m.

The shot put saw plenty of success from the Eagles, leading with Jada Pierce. Pierce paced the pack and won the event with a throw of 12.68m on her first attempt. Priscilla Jones cashed in on her last attempt and took bronze at 12.06m. On the men's side, Stefan Jungmichel finished in fifth, reaching a mark of 13.06m.

A pair of third place showings came through for BU in the high jump. Hanna Bevan took care of business with a jump of 1.55m for the bronze, while A.J. Antonio landed in third with a mark of 1.81m.

Relays were also a point of excellence for Biola. In the 400 relay, Jones, Audrey Mousa, Maria Vidal Poy, and Kelaiah Moore joined forces for a time of 48.21 and a third place showing. Two more podium finishes came in the 1600 relays. The group of Jack Sapyta, Trevor Hormel, Dillon Sunday, and Mathias Davis wore silver medals with a time of 3:22.73, while for the women, Sophia Morris, Mousa, Robin Ahlquist, and Vidal Poy landed in third.

Rebeka Preston added another strong day to her weekend with more premiere placements. 100 hurdles was a prime event for Preston, who grabbed second place with a time of 14.56. She would go on to grab another silver medal in the triple jump with a leap of 11.60m on her first attempt.

Katie Thompson followed up for a third place finish behind Preston in the triple jump. She nabbed bronze with her second attempt, going for 11.22m.

The 400 hurdles saw a pair of strong performances from the Eagles. Joley Sproul and Sophia Morris went fifth and seventh, coming within .5 seconds of each other at 1:05.48 and 1:05.93, respectively.

The Eagles will be back in action at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Thursday in San Francisco, CA.
