Pook and Preston Shine

Biola track and field took to the Mangrum Invitational on Friday and found two podium finishes.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- From the track events to the field events, the Eagles made their presence felt across the board on Friday at the Mangrum Invitational. Caleb Pook and Rebeka Preston logged a pair of silver medals, as Biola started the weekend strong.

The first podium finish came in from Rebeka Preston. The veteran had herself a day with three top-10 placements with a silver medal in the 400 hurdles. Preston recorded a personal-best time of 1:01.32 for second place and was followed by her teammate Joley Sproul in eighth place.

Preston added to her day, shining in the 100 hurdles and the long jump. In her second hurdles event, Preston took sixth with another collegiate-best mark of 14.56. In the final field event of Saturday, she would land in fifth with a jump of 5.41m.

Caleb Pook displayed his well-rounded talents as well on Friday. The freshman picked up another podium finish for the Eagles in the pole vault event. His personal-best mark of 4.52m moved up his previous best by .21m on his way to second place. Pook also nabbed 12th in the 110 hurdles, which was two places behind teammate, Christian Lukens in 10th at 16.09.

Katie Thompson put together a nice day in the field events, leading off with a sixth place performance in the high jump. Thompson had three tries at the 1.50m mark and nailed it on her third and final attempt. She would go on to post a 4.93m in the long jump later in the evening.

The discus throw saw a pair of eighth place showings for Biola between Stefan Jungmichel and Gianna Troppy. Jungmichel reached 37.95m on his first attempt, which was good enough for a personal-best. Troppy reached the top 10 with a throw of 34.57m on her first attempt as well.

Three Eagles finished in the top-15 in the 400 with Mathias Davis leading the way at 50.70 in ninth place. Dillon Sunday and Jack Sapyta were not far behind with 11th and 15th place showings, respectively.

In the shot put, a pair of Eagles reached the top 10. Priscilla Jones came through on her third attempt and posted a toss of 10.77m for sixth place. Jungmichel impressed again on the men's side, netting a mark of 13.18m for another personal-best.

Caleb Murphy delivered in the 800 in a field of 34 runners. The freshman nabbed seventh place, as the lone Eagle in the event and posted a time of 1:56.67.

Freshmen continued to impress as the day drew on. In the 1500, Hailey Wurzbach and Maggie Williams went back-to-back in 10th and 11th place. The duo each raced in the 1500 for the first time in their collegiate careers for times of 4:43.49 and 4:43.70, respectively. Aidan Tomasini grabbed 19th place for BU with his first mark under four minutes at 3:59.41.

Sara Chao took care of business in the javelin with a sixth place showing. She logged a 32.76m throw on her fourth and final attempt.

A.J. Antonio and Jayden Bennett picked up ninth and 11th place efforts in the long jump. Antonio reached a mark of 6.31m, while Bennett went for 6.18m.

Julia Knowles logged another personal-best amongst the Biola group on Friday. Knowles finished her 5000 run in 19:18.10 for a 12th place finish.

The BU track and field squads will be right back to the action on Saturday at the Point Loma Collegiate Invitational.
