PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.--- The Biola women's golf team had a long day at the Poppy Hills Golf Course where they played the first two rounds of the Patriot Invitational.

Biola competed against a tough group of competitors, facing four nationally-ranked teams and two teams who are receiving votes from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). The four nationally-ranked teams are No. 2 Dallas Baptist University, No. 10 Cal State San Marcos, No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay and tied for No. 18 Point Loma. Cal State East Bay and Cal State LA are currently receiving votes. 

Round 1 
The Eagles concluded the first round of the invite tied for eighth place of 15 teams. Biola and CSU Monterey Bay matched team scores of 305 which placed them behind tied for first Dartmouth and DBU, tied for third CSU East Bay and CSU San Marcos, fifth place CSULA, sixth Point Loma, and seventh Holy Names. BU ended the first round 14 strokes behind the top two teams of the invite and was just four strokes behind Holy Names.

Two Eagles were sitting in the top 25 at the end of the first round. Jessica Cornelius led her team with a score of 74 (T18) and Brady Turnquist was just behind her with a score of 75 (T23). Cornelius was a tournament birdie-leader with three in the first round and Turnquist led the field in par-scoring. Turnquist recorded par in every hole but one.

Rachel Shaw, Melanie Reyes and Emily Cons were tied for 47th in the 81-person tourney, recording 80 in their first rounds. Reyes was one of four individuals who scored an eagle in the invite, recording one in her first round.  

Round 2
The Eagles dropped to ninth place in the second round of the Patriot Invite with a second round team score of 313. Emory University came up from 10th place to pass Biola and CSU Monterey Bay who were tied for eighth in the first round. 

However, BU edged the Otters in the second round where they pulled ahead of CSU Monterey Bay to take solo possession of the ninth place slot while CSU Monterey Bay fell to 10th. 

Ahead of Biola was first place CSU East Bay, second place DBU, third place Dartmouth, fourth place CSU San Marcos, fifth place Point Loma, sixth place Cal State LA, seventh place Holy Names, and eighth place Emory. 

The Eagles trail the tournament-leading Pioneers by 40 strokes and are just 10 strokes behind seventh place Emory University.

Turnquist and Cons recorded Biola's highest scores of the second round, both carding 77. 

Turnquist pulled ahead of Cornelius as the Eagles' leader. Turnquist placed T27th in the final round of the day. Turnquist recorded par eight times in her second round which ranked her fourth overall. Cornelius recorded a second round score of 80 which moved her down to T32nd overall. 

Cons improved by three strokes in her second round which moved her up five spots on the leader board (T42nd).

Reyes improved by a stroke, carding 79 in her second round which tied her for 49th. 

Shaw matched her first round score of 80 which placed her tied for 56th. 

Mailinh Vu played as BU's individualist. Vu recorded 85 in her first round and 87 in her second round which tied her for 74th overall. 

The Eagles will get some rest tonight and prepare for the final round of the Patriot Invitational which will begin tomorrow Tuesday, Mar. 21 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
