Eagles See Some Action at Ben Brown Invite

The track and field teams finished the first day of the Ben Brown Invite where their jumpers and throwers saw some action.

FULLERTON, Calif.--- The Biola track and field teams battled an elite field of teams and poor weather conditions today at the Ben Brown Invitational.

Biola was one of 24 college teams at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invite which included 12 Division I universities, five Division II universities, one NAIA institution and six community colleges. The invitational also included a handful of elite club and open athletes from professional leagues. 

The Eagles competed in three of the six field events that occurred today. 

Five Eagles participated in the women's long jump. Rebeka Preston led Biola with a jump of 5.13m which tied her for 12th overall with Army West Points' Kalliauna Powers. Preston's jump was the best of all Division II entries and she placed ahead of jumpers from DI UC San Diego, Hawai'i, Army West Point, and Cal State Fullerton.

Maria Vidal Poy was the next highest finisher in 24th and she was followed by Joley Sproul in 26th, Katie Thompson in 27th and Kristin Belle in 28th.

Stefan Jungmichel recorded BU's highest finish of the day, placing 10th in the men's javelin throw. Jungmichel recorded a distance of 43.91m with his throw. 

Sara Chao led Biola in the women's javelin throw. Her throw of 27.82m landed her 11th of 20 throwers. Jordyn Tipp placed 17th with her throw of 21.99m.

Biola's track and field teams will compete in the second day of the Ben Brown invitational tomorrow, Saturday Mar. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Titan Track Complex. While part of the squads are continuing the Ben Brown Invite, the other part will participate in the Oxy Distance Carnival, 9 a.m., at the Bill Henry Track.
