Eagles Ease In

The women’s golf team eased into the Jack Brown Memorial, ending the first day in the middle of the field with 18 holes remaining.

LAREDO, Tex.--- The women's golf team opened up their spring at the Jack Brown Memorial, hosted by Texas A&M International at the Laredo Country Club. Biola completed the first round of the 36-hole tournament with 335 team points which would tie them for sixth with Texas A&M Kingsville.

The Eagles competed against a competitive field of 10 teams. 
Two other teams at the Jack Brown Memorial were ranked by the Golf Coaches Association including No. 6 West Texas A&M and No. 19 UT Tyler. The Eagles are currently ranked 24th-best in the nation. 

Brady Turnquist led the Eagles in their first round, tying for third in the invitational with Texas A&M International's Yuliana Yapur, who is ranked individually 69th-best in NCAA Division II (75, +3). Turnquist led the field with 12 pars and was just three strokes behind the tournament's leader, West Texas A&M's Alyssa Campbell, who recorded 72-par in her first round.
 
Emily Cons was the Eagles' next highest finisher, recording 83 which placed her tied for 24th. She was followed by Melanie Reyes (T39, 86), Mailinh Vu (T52, 91) and Rachel Shaw (T52, 91). 

Reyes scored the only eagle of the day, making hole 8 from an impressive 128 yards.

Abigale Morris was Biola's individualist who finished tied for 24th with a score of 83.

The Eagles have one more round to go, which will begin at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 7 at the Laredo Country Club.
