Showing Resiliency

The softball team showcased their resiliency, continuing to battle until the very end in their 10-6 victory over Colorado Christian.

IRVINE, Calif.--- The Biola Softball team earned their second win of the day at the Concordia Kickoff Classic. The Eagles (3-0 overall) faced the Colorado Christian Cougars (0-2 overall) Friday evening and battled to beat CCU 10-6 at the Great Parks Sports Complex.

The Eagles wasted no time scoring, getting to work in the first inning. Jennifer Morinishi, Colby McClinton and Abie Nowak executed back-to-back singles that loaded the bases with no outs. Brie Nowak then executed some situational hitting, sending a sacrifice fly to center that scored Morinishi (1-0).

With bases still loaded, the Cougars got their first out of the inning but Raylene Roybal would pick up her teammate with a deep double toward center. Roybal's double cashed in two RBI's, putting Biola up, 3-0. Alexis Lara continued the rally with a single to the left side that scored two more runners and increased BU's advantage to 5-0.

Facing a 5-0 hole, the Cougars scored a run in the second inning and two runs in the third which cut down their deficit to two runs (5-3).

Biola was held scoreless in the second, third and fourth innings but managed to grow their lead in the fifth. McClinton doubled to kickstart the inning and was pushed to second when Rilee Ruvalcaba walked. Brie Nowak then bunted to successfully move their runners into scoring position which put McClinton in the perfect position to score off the Cougars' next wild pitch (6-3).

BU worked hard on defense and came back to score two insurance runs in the sixth, giving Biola the 8-3 lead. Colorado Christian answered back with some fight in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs off of two hits and one Eagle error (8-6).

Biola refused to let up, scoring two final runs in the seventh where they capitalized on two Cougar errors and two hits by Roybal and Cami Lara.

Biola showcased their resiliency, continuing to battle until the very end in their 10-6 victory.

Kayla Bousquette started for the Eagles on the mound where she threw the first 2.1 innings, allowing three runs off of three hits. Morninishi came in relief, throwing the next three innings where three runs scored off of four hits. Roybal closed the game and picked up her first save.
