Eagles Fall Behind in the Seventh

The softball team lost 7-6 to Cal State San Bernardino who had a late surge in the seventh inning.

LA MIRADA — The Biola Softball team fell late in the game against Cal State San Bernardino who would come up on top in the seventh, 7-6 over the Eagles.

Biola (7-4) and San Bernardino (4-5) were trading the lead back-and-forth in what would end up being a tight game.

CSUSB got ahead first with two runs in the first inning and Biola would cut their lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first (2-1).

The Eagles had their big scoring inning in the second where they tacked on three runs. Bridgette Trujillo would spark the momentum by working a two-out walk. Hailey Paull continued the inning by walking to give the Eagles runners on first and second. Jennifer Morinishi then had a big two-out swing, doubling to left center and scored the game-tying run (2-2). Colby McClinton then loaded the bases when she was hit by CSUSB's pitcher and then Abie Nowak would have a two-run RBI single to give Biola their final runs of the inning (4-2).

The Yotes came back with one run in the third that the Eagles would double in the fourth. Raylene Roybal tripled to score McClinton who walked and then Brie Nowak singled to score Roybal in what would be a productive inning for BU, who led 6-2.

CSUSB chipped away at Biola's lead again, scoring a single run in the fifth that they would triple in the top of the seventh to lead Biola, 7-6.

The Eagles worked to tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to push a run across resulting in their 7-6 loss.

Kayla Bousquette started the game in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings where she allowed four hits and three runs to score. Morinishi relieved in the third inning and threw three 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs to score.

The Eagles begin conference play next, starting with Chaminade in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The Eagles and Silverswords are set to face Friday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
