Eagles Keep Pace with Waves

The women’s basketball team kept pace and even led DI Pepperdine at one point in their exhibition game.

MALIBU, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team kept pace and even led Division I Pepperdine at one point in their exhibition game at the Firestone Fieldhouse.

The Waves ended up defeating the Eagles 56-50, but it was a terrific showing for Biola who is beginning their regular season in seven days at the Cross Conference Challenge against CSU San Bernardino (Friday, Nov. 10 at 1p.m.).

Biola had a strong first quarter where they led Pepperdine the entire frame. The Eagles shot 42 percent in the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and scored a game-high of 18 points.

The Eagles led the Waves by as much as 11 points in the first quarter. Jordan Rabe sunk in the basket that put the Eagles up 18-7. Jessa Thurman led her team with six points in the opening quarter.

Pepperdine caught up and surpassed Biola in the second quarter, outscoring BU 20-4. The Eagles had a setback where they only shot 8 percent from the field and 13 percent from beyond the arc. Trasara Alexander was responsible for all four points, making a three in the beginning of the second and scoring a free throw later on.

Biola improved in the third quarter where they matched the Waves in points. Both teams pulled together 14 points which left the score 45-36 in Pepperdine's favor heading into the fourth.

Biola went on to outscore Pepperdine 14-11 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to get past the Waves' second quarter damage. The Eagles brought it to as close as a two-point differential with a layup from Natasa Radovic (47-45) but Pepperdine would go on to keep the lead throughout the remainder of the match.

Thurman led Biola in scoring (15), assists (4) and blocks (1). Alexander was the Eagles next-highest scorer in her Biola debut with 10 points and Rabe was third with eight. Rabe led her team in boards with six, three offensive and three defensive and Laila led the squad in steals with five.

Biola's next game is an exhibition at Long Beach State on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
