GREENWOOD, Ind.---Four athletes from the Biola men's soccer team were chosen to the Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators.
To be eligible student-athletes must have been a starter or key reserve who played in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of their team's games with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. The athlete must also be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.Â
Tom Irion, Ethan Hardin, Nathan Kovalcik and Drew Darke represented Biola as Academic All-District selections.
Irion has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in his Master's of Business Administration. Irion played and started in every match but one, leading BU with 1,387 minutes. The Graduate Student was a Third Team All-PacWest selection who played 90 minutes in 10 matches and was able to contribute offensively, scoring four goals and two assists. Two of Irion's four goals were penalty kick goals.
Hardin has a 3.87 cumulative GPA in bible, theology and ministry. Hardin was a Second Team All-PacWest pick who scored six goals this season and was a PacWest Player of the Week. Hardin sat out a handful of matches due to an injury but was able to play in 14 matches (with 13 starts), totaling 1,017 minutes.
Kovalcik, a junior defender, has a 3.66 cumulative GPA in communication studies. Kovalcik played in 15 games and received 13 starts, totaling 1,144 minutes of action. He was another important piece of the Eagles' defensive line who played 90 minutes in four matches. The Junior was also able to contribute offensively, scoring a goal and an assist.
Darke is majoring in business administration and has a cumulative GPA of 3.57. Darke played in 18 matches and received nine starts, totaling 783 minutes. The midfielder earned the first assist of his collegiate career this season.
WHAT'S NEXT?
All-District selections will be move on and be voted on for Academic All-America. The Academic All-American team will be released on Tuesday, December 19.
