Eagles End Shark Shootout

The Biola women's golf team ended the Shark Shootout sixth of 18 teams with a combined team score of 597.

WAIKOLOA, Hawaiʻi—The Biola women's golf team ended the Shark Shootout sixth of 18 teams with a combined two-round team score of 597.

The Eagles started the second round in second place (293) and would end their final round in sixth after recording a second round team score of 304.

Laura Ortiz shot the Eagles' lowest second round, carding 74. Brady Turnquist scored the Eagles' next-best second round (75) and she was followed by Jessica Cornelius (76), Karis Haltom (79) and Melanie Reyes (80).

Biola's individual leader was Turnquist who tied for 11th overall with a total score of 147. Ortiz was next with a combined score of 148, tying for 15th. Behind Ortiz was Cornelius (T31, 151), Haltom (T39, 152) and Reyes (T51, 154).

Rachel Shaw competed as an individual and tied for 51st alongside Reyes. Shaw recorded 81 in her first round and shaved off eight strokes in her second where she carded 73.

Nationally-ranked No. 10 CSU San Marcos was the invitational's team Champions with a combined two-round team score of 578. No. 14 CSU East Bay, CSU Los Angeles and receiving votes CSU Monterey Bay all tied for second (591). Sonoma State finished third with a team score of 592.

Biola will stay in Hawaiʻi and get ready for their next tournament, the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate, which is set to begin on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Waikoloa Village Course.
