WAIKOLOA, Hawaiʻi—The Biola women's golf team executed an impressive first round at the Sharks Shootout, finishing the first day second of 18 teams with a team score of 293.

The Eagles prevailed against a competitive field of 18 teams, two of which were ranked in the Women's Golf Coaches Association's (WGCA) 2023-24 preseason poll and two who were receiving votes. 

Biola surpassed three of the four ranked squads, including No. 14 CSU East Bay and University of Texas at Tyler and CSU Monterey Bay who were receiving votes.

No. 10 CSU San Marcos was the invitational's leader at the conclusion of the first round, leading the field with a team score of 285 (eight stroke ahead of Biola).

Brady Turnquist paced BU with a first round score of two-above-par 72 which tied her for eighth with five others. Turnquist chases the invite's leader from CSU San Marcos (Madison Murr) by four strokes.

The Eagles next best individual was Karis Haltom who shot three-above-par 73 and ended the first round tied for 13th.

Behind Haltom was Melanie Reyes (74, T19), Laura Ortiz (74, T19), and Jessica Cornelius (75, T27).

Biola is in a great place heading into their second round which will take place tomorrow Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. PT.
