Senior Send Off

The swim and dive teams sent off their seniors with two dominant wins over Arizona Christian.

LA MIRADA---The Biola Swim and Dive teams opened the new year with two dominant wins against Arizona Christian that included a handful of pool and school records made on senior day. 

Ten seniors were honored at Lansing Pool including Anna Cohee, Anna Haaksma, Kellynn Hayes, Liza Parahnevich, Kolya Vos, James Gamette, Alex Ness, Dylan Pon, Tanner Smith, and Patrick Waggoner.

Diving started the meet on Friday. The Eagles had a combined five divers step into the competition without any opposition from the Firestorm.

In the 3-meter dive for the women, Eliana Cote began with a reverse one and a half somersaults. Abby DePina ended the event with a one and a half somersault with a full twist. The two Eagles split the two dive events with Cote winning the 3-meter  and DePina taking first in the 1-meter.

For the men, freshman Caleb Pook shined. Pook's performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter were pool and school records. Pook showed off a strong progression through his six 1-meter dives, ending with a forward somersault with three twists for an overall score of 304 and first place. Pook's dive crushed the previous pool record of 282.45 by Shane Brinson in 2017. 

Pook also took first in the 3-meter with an overall score of 295.90, setting another school and pool record.

The duo of Lukes, Bartruff and Hanson, followed Pook and placed second and third respectively in the 1-meter and 3-meter..


Swim followed the diving portion of the meet where the Eagles won 21 of the 22 events that took place. Biola began with two 200-yard medley relay wins from their 'A' teams. The women's team was composed of Parahnevich, Haaksma, Mirsha Lora and Phoebe Munholland and the men's team included Gamette, Smith, Alejandro Marchesini, and Nathan Griffin. 

Biola continued strong with 13 athletes picking up individual wins. Three of the 13 first place finishers won twice including Marchesini, Pon and Morgan Kampfer. 

Noah Hall and Lora won first-place and made pool records. Hall set the record in the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 16:38.56 and Lora created the new record in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.04

Biola closed out a great day with a fantastic finish. The women's 'A' and 'B' teams beat ACU, coming in first and second respectively in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Then the men's teams followed suit where their 'A' and 'B' teams came back from behind to beat Arizona Christian in an exciting final event. Seniors Patrick Waggoner and Tanner Smith combined to swim an exhilarating final 400 yards to earn Biola a win by a whole pool length.
