IRVINE, Calif. — Biola Men's Soccer swept the PacWest Conference individual weekly awards announced Monday.
Kristian Colaci earned his second Offensive Player of the Week while
JD Gunn earned his first Defender of the Week award of the season.
Biola's only matchup of the week was a home non-conference effort against Azusa Pacific. The Eagles took advantage of the home cooking to earn a remarkable 3-0 victory over their biggest rivals, and the defending conference champs.
That was Biola's first victory of the season, moving the team to 1-3-2 at the time.
Colaci netted two goals in the contest to bring his season total to six. He added another yesterday in a 2-2 draw with Concordia and only been held without a goal twice in Biola's seven matches this season. His seven goals is good enough for tops in the PacWest Conference and 11th in all of NCAA Division II.
The transfer forward is only four goals back from Biola's NCAA Division II era record of 11 (
Leo Thompson - 2018). He has 10 matches left to pursue that mark.
The shutout against APU was the Eagles' first shutout of 2022. In the win
JD Gunn withstood the pressure of 11 APU shots and seven Cougars' corner kicks. He followed this effort up with an incredible 13-save masterpiece against Concordia earlier this week.
The 13 saves was a new NCAA Division II era record for a BU keeper. He did so while Biola played down one man from the 12th minute on and down two from the 63rd minute on. Gunn watched the Golden Eagles fire off 26 total shots in the 2-2 draw.
BU men's soccer will be back in action this week with a home match against Fresno Pacific at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
