Eagles Fall Short

The men’s water polo team just fell short to No. 16 California Baptist in a WWPA conference match at the Lancer Aquatics Center.

RIVERSIDE, Calif.---The Biola University men's water polo team finished a competitive conference game against the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) No. 16 team in the nation: California Baptist.

The Lancers' topped the Eagles by only four goals in what would be a tight competition at the Lancer Aquatics Center.

The first quarter was closely fought where both teams toggled with the lead. CBU began to pull away in the final three minutes of the frame and continued to create as much as a six-goal deficit (10-4) in the third quarter.

The Eagles started to flip the script in the final portion, building up to be within a two goal reach with a little over two minutes remaining (12-10).

However, a late exclusion and sound power play execution from California Baptist solidified their lead, winning the match 14-10 in favor of the Lancers in their home pool.

CBU capitalized on their power play opportunities, scoring on five out of seven attempts while BU struggled to maximize on their opportunities (0-for-9).

Biola saw success in their penalty shots, thanks to Kenny Wulf and Gavin Oliver who were both successful (2-2).

The Eagles had seven goal scorers including Matthew Vinson (1), Luke Franklin (2), Adam LaVoy (2), Nolan Rapp (1), Wulf (1), Maxwell Osborn (1) and Oliver (2).

Biola is now 2-8 for the season and 0-2 in the WWPA. BU has the opportunity to improve their standing today (September 22) as they take on Concordia University at 3 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
