LA MIRADA--- The Biola University women's golf team opened up the 2022-23 season earlier this week at the Swan Invitational in Denver, Colorado. The Eagles tied for fifth in the 15 team field, getting the ball rolling for new year.

"Coming off last year's PacWest Conference Championship and losing three players at the end of the season, we knew we had to bring on some solid talent -- and that we did," previewed head coach Jane Carr.

Biola added three newcomers to their roster, including one freshman and two Division I transfer students: Abigale Morris, Emily Cons, and Madison Voisard. 

Abigale Morris is BU's lone freshman from Buckeye, Arizona. She attended Canyon View High School where her team qualified for Districts three times and States twice. The Jaguars were the two-time District Champions and secured fourth and fifth place State finishes. Her sophomore year she qualified for States individually. 

Throughout high school Morris garnered several awards such as Women's Fall Athlete of the Year, JGAA Girls Most Improved, Co-District Champion, Tucson City Jr. Champion, Prescott City Jr. Runner Up, Teammate of the Year, and was a two-year team captain. In high school she also qualified for the Junior World Championship and Callaway World Championship. 

Morris also fared well in the classroom receiving High Honor Roll with a 4.6 grade point average and graduated in the top 10 percent in her class. 

"Abigale Morris is a young player who has a lot of potential to contribute to this team as seen by the fact that she made the travel squad for our Fall season opener," stated Carr. "It isn't easy to qualify for travel as a freshman, but she held her own and wasn't intimidated by the veteran players."  

Emily Cons comes to Biola from the University of Arizona where she spent two years with the Wildcats. Prior to attending UA she went to Xavier College Preparatory where her team was four-time State Champions.

"Emily Cons is going to be a spark for this team having played at the University of Arizona which produces some of the top female athletes on the LPGA tour," Carr explained. "Just her experience of having played alongside that caliber of athlete will push our team to be better."  

Madison Voisard, the final incoming Eagle, transferred to Biola from Grand Canyon University where she played three years for the Antelopes. 

Voisard was BU's top finisher at the Swan Invitational, tying for seventh. In just her first tournament as an Eagle she also tied a program-best single round record of four-under-par 68. 

"Madison Voisard is from a professional athlete family and carries herself like a champion," reflected Carr. "She has an amazing temperament for golf, plays smart golf and has placed herself as the number one player on the team for our first fall tournament in Colorado."
 
The women's golf team is just getting started. They play next tomorrow Friday, September 16 at the Glendora Golf Club against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Athenas and Eagles will begin at 1:30 p.m.
