Across three teams, BU nabbed five weekly honors on Monday.

September 12, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- The PacWest Conference office handed a plethora of awards over to the Biola Eagles on Monday afternoon.

BU cross country turned in excellent showings at the Vanguard Invitational which earned them honors on Monday. The Eagles shared all four awards with Concordia, as co-winners of player of the week and team of the week for the men's and women's sides.

In men's soccer, Kristian Colaci was named player of the week. The honor was the first of the year for the BU program.

The junior transfer made a strong impression last week in a matchup against No. 1 Cal State LA. Colaci was key in the BU attack, helping the Eagles tack on three scores against the top-tier opponent.

The forward pushed ahead for two goals and five shots on-goal in 76 minutes of action on the road. The pair of scores made for three total on the year from the Texas A&M International transfer.

On the course, BU dominated in every aspect on Friday at the Vanguard Invitational. BU cross country could not have had a better start to the 2022 campaign, on the way to a PacWest Men's Cross Country Co-Team of the Week and Women's Cross Country Co-Team of the Week honors.

The men's squad finished the day at the top of the leaderboard with 27 points and five points ahead of second place. All five scorers for BU finished in the top 10, including the individual winner Benjamin White.

White picked up the Co-Runner of the Week recognition after just his first race in a BU uniform. The graduate transfer led the pack for BU, netting the win in the 8k race with a time of 25:47.56.

Following on Friday morning, the BU women's cross country squad were the victors at the Vanguard Invite. The 5k race featured just 25 points for the Eagles, which was good enough to lead all other teams by at least 20 points.

Lynette Ruiz was a major part of the win for BU, as the sophomore placed third in the race. The PacWest Co-Runner of the Week led an impressive Biola unit that put six runners in the top eight. Ruiz posted a time of 18:28.67.

BU men's soccer will be back in action this week with a home match against CSU San Bernardino at 7:00 pm on Wednesday and Biola cross country will return to the course at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday.
