Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Big Dub

Biola picks up an emphatic 21-7 victory over Caltech on Saturday.

LA VERNE, Calif. —- Biola Men's Water Polo flexed a bit of muscle in earning a dominant victory on Saturday afternoon against Caltech.

Head Coach Rick Nordell's Eagles tripled up their opponent to pick up their first true victory of this 2022 campaign.

Biola cashed in at least six times in three of four quarters in this one.

Six first period scores got the Eagles off to a strong 6-1 start, but a good second frame from Caltech made it relatively close at 8-5 during halftime.

The Eagles were head-and-shoulders above the competition in the second half, specifically, out-scoring the Beavers 13-2 over the final 16 minutes.

Will Tibbetts and Nolan Rapp scored back-to-back to help Biola extend it to 10-5 less than three minutes into the third period.

Those two would score two goals a piece in the third quarter to help Biola out-score Caltech 7-1 in the frame.

They almost blanked the Beavers in the third period, but it was a Matthew Hajjar goal with nine seconds left in the third to give Caltech late life.

One goal was all Caltech would manage in the fourth period as well as the Eagles ran away with it.

Thirteen different Eagles found the back of the net in this one as the offense was plentiful from start-to-finish.

Rapp was the high point man for BU in this one with a pair of goals and three assists. Kenny Wulf also had five points. He was the leading goal-scorer with a hat trick and pair of dimes. His work in this one allowed him to extend out to the team lead in goals this year with 13.

Tibbetts was also a great facilitator in this game, tallying four points off a pair of goals and a pair of assists.

It was a banner day for Dylan Diaz, Jackson Sumwalt, Christian Trapp who each scored their first goal of the season in this matchup.

Biola notched its 21 goals on just 37 shots. They had to work hard to earn it due to an imbalance in exclusions. The Eagles had 14 kick-outs to Caltech only being called for eight.

The win moves Biola to 2-5 on the season. Up next for BU is another chance for a victory as they face a Westcliff team they split with last year.

The Eagles face the Warriors at 12 p.m. on Wednesday in Irvine.
