June 22, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- Academic success across the PacWest was recognized on Wednesday with the announcement of the 2021-22 Academic All-PacWest list. Biola earned 206 honors from all PacWest sponsored sports, giving the Eagles the third-highest number of recognitions in the conference.

The PacWest Conference recognizes student-athletes who achieved at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, completed at least two semesters at their institution and participated in regular season competition in a PacWest sponsored sport. Student-athletes who meet the criteria are recognized with the Academic All-Pacwest honors.

The Eagles ranked third in the PacWest with their 206 total recipients, after increasing their overall total by 30 from last year. BU came up shy of both Concordia and Azusa Pacific, who landed one different from each other at 219 and 218, respectively.

For the second-straight year, Biola's women's track and field program led the way in total recipients at 27. Baseball and women's soccer came in next at 25 and 24, respectively.

Women's soccer held an impressive percentage of Academic All-PacWest award-winners with 88.9 percent of their eligible athletes earning the award. Biola's men's soccer team saw the biggest increase from last year's totals, tallying 15 more recipients by reaching 20 in 2021-22.

The PacWest recognized 1,795 student-athletes with Academic All-PacWest honors this year, including 81 who maintained perfect 4.0 GPA's to set a new record for the conference in that category. Eight of the 4.0 GPA's belonged to Biola student-athletes: Miguel Abascal (BB), Matthew Nyce (BB), Aysia Johnson (WBB), Kaela Berretta (XC, WTRACK), Katelyn Penner (WSOC), Maddie Riley (SB), Antonio Rosales Varona (MT) and Carlos Solorzano (MT).
