LA MIRADA ---  Biola University Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Billi Derleth as its new Assistant Sports Information Director. Derleth comes to the Eagles after spending the last year at fellow PacWest school, Hawaii Hilo, as the Interim Sports Information Director.

"I am so excited to join the Biola Athletics Department and stay in the PacWest Conference. Biola has a great athletic department that I am honored to be a part of and I look forward to working with and serving the student-athletes here in La Mirada," said Derleth.

During her time at Hawaii Hilo, she managed Vulcans Athletics social media, helping traffic grow on each platform. She was also in charge of maintaining their athletics website by writing articles, accumulating season stats and organizing audio and video media.

"We are looking forward to bringing Billi onto our staff to help serve our student-athletes," said Ethan McGarvey, sports information director. "Billi will bring a hard-working attitude to Biola and will energize the sports information office going into 2022-23."

Prior to joining the Vulcans athletics staff, Derleth started her athletic communications career at Concordia. At CUI, she held the role of Sports Information Graduate Assistant as she pursued a Masters of Coaching & Athletics Administration. 

She earned her undergraduate degrees in Communications and Kinesiology and Exercise Science from UHH. While at UHH, Derleth was a student-athlete on the softball squad, competing as a pitcher and a designated player.

"I would like to give Dr. Bethany Miller, Neil Morgan, Ethan McGarvey and the rest of the hiring committee a huge thank you for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to joining the Biola team and working hard for the university!"

Derleth will assume the new role at Biola beginning June 20.
