Butler and Bats Boost Biola

The Biola lineup tacked on 10 runs in game one on Saturday for a victory over Concordia.

IRVINE, Calif. --- Eight-of-nine Biola hitters logged a base hit in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Concordia (18-17-1). The success at the plate helped the visiting BU Eagles (14-17) nab a 10-7 win.

The early game was even as both teams tallied two runs through the first two frames. Tyler White brought home both scores for BU, offering up a single to take advantage of a Bobby Brown double.

The third inning was the difference-maker for the Biola Eagles. BU strung together five hits, including four singles and one double to pile on five runs. Wyatt Duncan, Taylor Justus and Matthew Nyce nabbed RBI hits in the rally. Nyce came up big with two outs, bringing home Justus to give BU a 7-2 lead.

CUI did not go away though, responding with a score in the bottom of the third. The host squad kept up the pressure in the fifth, posting a four-run plate appearance to cut their deficit to one.

Rylan Greenlee did not feel comfortable with just a 8-7 lead, so the designated hitter launched a home run in the sixth. Greenlee took advantage of a hitter's 3-1 count to send the ball over the fence to score himself and Oscar Serratos for a two-run homer.

Brayden Englert finished a quiet sixth on the mound, before handing the reins to Connor Butler.  Butler stepped in and took over, completely shutting down the CUI offense. The lefty struck out seven Concordia Eagles, while delivering three scoreless and hitless frames. The dominant showing was good for his first save as an Eagle. Through the three innings, only three batters put the ball in play, resulting in just one base runner in the stretch.

Greenlee, White and Nyce each tallied multiple hits in the contest, helping the team to 12 total in the game. The back half of the lineup did a great job securing each run, as the No. 5-9 hitters tallied seven RBIs.

Game two is currently underway at Eagles Field in Irvine, CA.
