Moving Up and Looking Forward

Biola climbed up two spots on Tuesday to finish third at the Desert Invite, finishing off the regular season.

TUCSON, Ariz. --- Lauren Lee led the Eagles once again on Tuesday and helped the squad grab third place in the West Texas A&M Desert Invite. The two-round tourney took place in Tucson, Arizona at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon and saw the Eagles rise two spots on the final day of their last regular season competition of 2022.


Biola (306-311-617) came into the day solidly in fifth place and just four strokes back of the top spot. The BU squad posted the fifth-best score on day two and a tourney total of 617, which was good enough for third. 

The field of 18 teams featured numerous top squads in NCAA DII. No. 10 West Texas A&M played host to the tournament and took home the crown and was followed by No. 20 Texas A&M - Commerce in second. No. 14 Grand Valley State and No. 25 St. Mary's also competed and came in behind the No. 26 Biola Eagles.

Lee (72-72-144) was the star of the show for BU, earning a second place finish in the overall tournament. Both days, Lee posted the second-best score amongst all 96 competitors with a 72 on Monday and Tuesday. 

The BU freshman took care of business on par 4s, going -1 through the tournament on such holes. 26 pars and five birdies ranked top-5 in both categories, helping Lee to her best scores and placements in her Biola career.

Next up, Sami Penor (79-77-156) collected a round of 77 (+5) on Tuesday. Penor logged 22 pars through the tourney and finished tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard with a two-day total of 156.

BU's third scorer in round two was Brady Turnquist, who tied for 29th individually. The sophomore tacked on a round of 80 on Tuesday, following a round of 78 on day one. Turnquist made a splash with one of the three eagles recorded in the invite.

Par 5s belonged to Melanie Reyes (77-82-159), as she went -2 on the long distance holes. The freshman tied for 34th and rounded out the BU scorers with a round of 82 on Tuesday.

Biola will be back in action at the PacWest Tournament beginning on Monday, April 18 at the Wigwam Golf Course in Surprise, Arizona.
