Double Dose of Wins

The Eagles put it to the Sunbirds on Friday with a pair of convincing routs on the road.

FRESNO, Calif. --- A four-game series between the Biola Boys and Fresno Pacific (23-17, 12-10 PacWest) kicked off on Friday with a doubleheader at FPU Diamond. The Eagles (16-23, 12-10 PacWest) left no doubt with a pair of dominant showings, taking game one 13-5 before logging a 12-1 victory in game two.

For the first time since April 8 and 9, Biola offered up back-to-back double-digit offensive performances. The team as a whole batted .315 on the day and compiled a total of 23 hits and 25 runs.

The first seven runs of the first game on Friday all went the way of the Eagles, as the visitors jumped ahead. The onslaught began in the third frame with two homers from Biola. Rylan Greenlee logged the first one to score a pair and Bobby Brown added a three-run shot with two outs to post five runs in the inning.

FPU responded with four runs between the fourth and sixth, cutting it to a three-run Biola advantage.

The close margin did not last long, as BU picked up another homer. This home run came from Brenden Bell with one runner on, making the scoreline 9-4.

The Eagles went on to score four runs and one more long ball for their fourth as a team to take home the 13-5 win. Andrew Beauvais nabbed the win on the mound, logging five innings in the start.

Pitching highlighted game two with a stellar showing from Brayden Englert. The senior drew the start and delivered seven scoreless frames. The righty offered 112 pitches in the winning effort and collected four strikeouts, while allowing just four hits.

The bats stayed hot to handle their end of the deal. The BU offense tacked on at least one run in each inning from the third to the eighth.

Oscar Serratos sparked the offense in the third, sending a triple to right-center field to score Matthew Nyce and Tyler Baca. A double steal brought Serratos home but also ended the inning, giving BU a 3-0 lead.

The runs kept coming in for Biola in a different fashion than game one. The Eagles took advantage of singles and walks to continually increase their line on the scoreboard rather than launching the ball over the fence like they did to start the day.

Biola drew 14 walks in the contest, while logging nine hits and three stolen bases. Serratos posted a multi-hit effort with two hits and two RBIs and was followed by Bell, who also recorded a pair of hits and RBIs.

The Eagles will return to FPU Diamond on Saturday for another doubleheader against the Sunbirds beginning at 12:00 pm.
