Lucky Number 13

The Eagles collected 13 runs and 13 hits in a road rout on Saturday against Academy of Art.

OAKLAND, Calif. --- When the Biola lineup is rolling, the Eagles are a very tough team to beat. The Biola Boys tacked on more than ten runs for the third-straight game against Academy of Art (6-13, 2-6 PacWest) to gather a Saturday sweep. Through the four-game series, BU (8-8, 5-3 PacWest) took three games, after taking game two on Saturday by a 13-1 final score.

A win for the Eagles has meant something dramatic for the scoreline so far this season. Through the team's last six wins, BU has tallied more than 10 runs in each, while averaging a margin of victory of nine runs. Despite being an even 8-8 on the year, Biola leads its opponents 133-87 in total runs.

That potent offense was on full display on Saturday afternoon in Oakland. The Eagles eyed a sweep on the day and would not be denied.

The work began early with instant offense from the three-hole hitter, Oscar Serratos. The shortstop smacked the first pitch he saw to right center field for a double and added a stolen base to sneak over to third. RBI machine Bobby Brown picked him up with a single to put BU on the scoreboard in the top of the first.

A leadoff double was just what the host squad needed in the bottom of the first, as ARTU tied the ballgame at one run.

The lone run was all that the Urban Knights were gonna get, as Brayden Englert settled in on the mound. BU's starter allowed just one more hit in the five inning outing and corralled six strikeouts. The third, fourth and fifth frames belonged to Englert, who did not allow a base runner in the stretch. The righty earned the win on the mound for his first of the season.

The BU offense got right back to it in the second and third innings, tallying four big scores to bring the lead to 5-1. Serratos offered up a second double in consecutive innings to score a pair and Tyler Baca nabbed an RBI with a single to plate Tyler White.

The fifth frame sealed the deal for the Eagles. Biola batted around the lineup and ultimately saw 12 at bats in the frame. Five hits, one walk and two hit-by-pitches opened the door for eight Eagles to touch home, putting the game out of hand at 13-1.

Evan Rowe, Serratos, Brown and Andrew Lujan each had an RBI base hit in the fifth. Brown and Lujan capped off the inning with back-to-back doubles for the only extra-base hits in the frame.

The final nine outs for the Urban Knights went by quietly to finish off the seven-inning affair. Connor Butler and Tyler Mead handled the relief work, posting a pair of scoreless frames with one hit allowed.

Serratos was perfect in the contest, going 4-4 at the plate. Brown and Serratos tied for the team-high with three runs batted in. The freshman Brown leads the team with 21 RBIs this year. The young talent always seems to cash in on scoring opportunities, adding eight RBIs in the series against the Urban Knights.

Biola will continue PacWest play in its next contest on Friday, March 18 with a home doubleheader against Hawaii Hilo.
