BU Powers Up

The Eagles had an awakening on offense and compiled 15 runs in a win over Academy of Art.

OAKLAND, Calif. --- A slower paced game one did not faze the Biola Eagles (6-8, 3-3 PacWest) as they entered the back half of Friday's doubleheader. The BU squad went wild at the plate to notch a 15-4 victory on the road over the Academy of Art Urban Knights (6-11, 2-4 PacWest).

Fortune for the Eagles shifted early in game two, as the visitors collected as many hits and more runs in the first inning than their entire game one totals. The big hit came from none other than Bobby Brown. The freshman picked up his third grand slam of the season to put BU up 4-0 in the top of the first.

On the year, Brown has collected six extra-base hits, including three home runs. All three dingers have come with the bases loaded, as the young infielder boasts a .341 batting average through the first 14 games of the season.

The Urban Knight responded in the bottom of the first with a string of singles, limiting their deficit to 4-2.

The two-run frame for ARTU did not disrupt the BU offense, which was ready to feast. Inning number two began with a bang, as Brenden Bell led things off with a solo shot on a hitter's count of 3-1. The next three batters all reached base, including a double from Matthew Nyce, loading the bases for Brown. The freshman did not launch a homer this time but still managed a single to grab another RBI. Through the second inning, BU added five more runs to extend its lead to seven at 9-2.

With a comfortable lead in hand in the early going, BU starting pitcher Gilbert Lopez knew the assignment. The righty maintained a great pace on the mound, dealing eight innings for the Eagles to pick up his second win of 2022. Lopez did not waste time, tossing 97 pitches and four strikeouts.

The final three innings saw six more runs for the Eagles, as they secured the huge victory. The seventh inning was something special for BU. The team nabbed four extra-base hits to nearly hit for the cycle minus the single. Rylan Greenlee provided the jolt in the leadoff spot for the frame, corralling his second homer this season.

The BU squad tallied nine extra-base hits in game two on Friday. Three home runs, one triple and five doubles sparked an offense that scored 15 runs for the second time this season.

Biola baseball will complete its four-game series with Academy of Art on Saturday with another doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
