BU and APU Split Season Series

Biola women’s tennis dropped their first contest in a month and a half to split the season series with Azusa Pacific.

March 26, 2022

Box Score AZUSA, Calif. --- A pair of highly touted women's tennis squads took the court in Azusa, California on Saturday morning. No. 32 Azusa Pacific (10-6) was the team to come out victorious against No. 10 Biola (17-2).

The two teams battled for the second time in the 2022 campaign on Saturday, after the Eagles won the first contest in La Mirada. APU took care of its home court the same as BU, taking Saturday's competition, 5-2.

A 14-match winning streak came to an end for Biola, who rank second in the PacWest according to the most recent release from the conference office.

The match flipped from their previous matchup from the start in doubles play. The Cougars nabbed the win on courts No. 1 and No. 3 to take the 1-0 lead.

The momentum stayed with the hosting Cougars, as the match progressed into singles play. A win by retirement and two straight-set victories clinched the contest for APU with a 4-0 scoreline.

Biola finished strong behind the efforts of Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann. No. 5 singles saw a drawn out first set between Fager and Audrey Stewart, as the two went even at 5-5. Fager put together the final push needed to gain the advantage with a 7-5 win. Fager kept up the pressure in the second set and delivered a 6-2 win for the first Biola point of the day.

Mann battled on court No. 3 against April Wong and split the first two sets with the junior from APU. The tightly contested match went to a shortened third set with the overall match already decided. The tiebreaker to 10 couldn't be closer with neither athlete gaining separation. A win-by-two scenario pushed the set past ten points, as the freshman Mann talled the 11-9 win.

BU will return home on Thursday in search of a new winning streak, taking on Academy of Art at 12:00 pm.
