Biola track and field went north and south this weekend to compete at the Cal Poly Invitational and the Team 4 Titus and Ely Meet.

Weekend action for the Biola track and field team meant competition as far north as San Luis Obispo, CA and just south in Irvine, CA. The team found success with four event wins across the Cal Poly Invitational and the Team 4 Titus and Ely Meet.


Rebeka Preston offered up a standout performance at Cal Poly, competing in a mix of field and short distance events. The top mark came in the javelin event, as Preston was the champion with a personal-best throw of 35.33m. 

The senior followed up the win with a top-five showing in the long jump (4th) at 5.34m and triple jump (3rd) at 11.91m. Preston also took to the track for the 100m hurdles and came in ninth with a time of 15.49.

Hanna Bevan also finished at the top of the field in the high jump on Friday. The junior matched her career-best with a jump of 1.65m to earn the event crown. Olivia Doyle came in next for Biola tied for fifth at 1.55m.

A pair of top-five finishes was notched by Jada Pierce in the field for BU. The junior corralled a personal-best mark of 11.29m in the shot put for fifth place and also grabbed fourth with a mark of 43.06m in the hammer throw.

Troy Yarter and Sara Chao were top competitors in the javelin throw at two different venues. Yarter nabbed fifth on Friday at the Cal Poly Invitational with a throw of 51.79m and Chao finished third at the Titus and Ely Invite with a personal-best mark of 34.22m.

The 800 run was dominated by Eagles with four in the top-six. Hannah Champness wore the crown, after placing first with a time of 2:17.32. Kenzie Elliott finished next in second place at 2:19.75 and was trailed by Jordan Gossett (2:21.02) in fourth and Hailey Schadt (2:24.38) in sixth.

The men's 800 featured a pair of BU runners in the top-eight, including Will Durrance and Aidan Arredondo. Durrance logged a time of 1:58.36 for sixth and Arredondo finished eighth at 1:59.36.

Cole Muller nabbed a win in the men's 200 for Biola at the Cal Poly Invite. The speedster posted a time of 22.15 to lead a field of 16 runners. Muller also competed alongside Dominic Castro in the 100 event and the duo each placed amongst the top-10.

Mathias Davis also impressed in San Luis Obispo, nabbing second place in the men's 400. The sprint lasted just 49.19 seconds for Davis, who cruised through the lap around the track. In the women's 200, Shelby Rogers took seventh with a time of 25.78.

Short distance runners strutted their stuff in the 100 hurdles and 100 dash, including Heidi Sowers and Alexis Madrid-Cordero. Sowers handled the hurdles with a time of 15.22 and a seventh place finish. Madrid-Cordero nabbed eighth in the sprint, posting a mark of 12.93.

In the relays at Cal Poly, Biola offered up teams in both 4x400 races. Both squads placed third amongst their respective fields, as the men finished at 3:18.84 and the women at 3:55.68.

Lillianna Sosa and Aidan Tomasini showed off their prowess in the much longer track races. The women's 10000 featured Sosa in second place with a time of 41:55.41. Tomasini crossed the finish line at 15:20.84 in the 5000 for fourth place.

The 1500 race saw plenty of Eagles flying through the event, including Grace Catena (4:51.31) in fifth, Kaela Berretta (4:54.11) in ninth and Keira Coye (4:55.95) in 10th. On the men's side, Charles Bailey paced the Eagles in fifth place at 4:00.94 and was followed by Jacob Shirota in ninth at 4:11.21.

Biola will be back in action on Thursday at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.
